My story
My name is Paulina Równy.
I’m a burnout and career coach, mentor, behavioural change designer, entrepreneur, as well as a highly sensitive person, burnout veteran, sexual assault survivor and the oldest of three sisters.
I’ve spent 17 years navigating various corporate environments and more than a decade working in financial services. I started with a graduate programme at a bank in Poland, after which I moved into consulting. Consulting opened the door for me to the international work and life I’ve always dreamed of. The dream came with a lot of stress and toxic work environment that I initially accepted as ‘the way things were’. I’ve been successful at my job, working predominantly in the area of data and technology transformation in roles ranging from a delivery manager, behavioural change designer to programme manager.
Fast forward to the beginning of 2022, when I hit the wall and experienced a massive burnout. I was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety… and I felt completely exhausted.
Did you know that anxiety is simply a felt experience of lack of safety? And depression is a result of oppression, coupled with lack of expression? I know that now, but back then I had no idea what was going on.
I was in therapy, which is the ‘right thing to do’, yet I was falling into the abyss of darkness and void. Life felt hard, too hard… and redundant. Embarking on a healing journey and finding my answers became a matter of all or nothing for me. I was challenged to deeply reassess my life. I was asking questions such as “Who am I?”, “What am I doing?”, “Why am I doing it?”.
I made it my life’s mission to understand what happened in my life that triggered the burnout to be able to find ways to heal. It was hard to find the right resources and make sense of all that led me to the edge of the cliff. This is when I’ve learned about trauma, somatic healing, spiritual practices, Jungian psychology, NLP and other modalities that I use in my work with clients now. They have made all the difference in my life and I would like to share them with you.
The essence of the healing and research work I’ve done over the years.
It’s not personal, it’s systemic.
Having experienced burnout is not a proof that something is wrong with me. It is a natural response to the toxic environment and extractive systems that I’m surrounded by. Burnout is the ultimate boundary my body set to protect and defend me.
Returning home to myself.
Healing began when I returned home, to my body. Body is the portal to my spirit, to my unconscious and subconscious, that rule 95% of my everyday decisions, to my inner knowing and to wisdom. Data can be turned into insight, insight into knowledge, but only embodied knowledge can become wisdom. Without connecting with my body, the doors to wisdom remain closed.
Journey to wholeness.
“Prescriptions assume that something needs to be fixed; transformation brings forth the healing – the coming to integrity, to wholeness – of what is already there.”* Healing is a journey of acceptance and compassion towards parts of myself that got banished, hidden, lost or forgotten, such as my sensitivity, self-trust, sense of worth or ability to build healthy relationships. I reclaim them every single day, step by step. It’s a deep, ever evolving journey of becoming, with no final destination.
